The Insights Association, the leading voice, resource, and network for the market research and data analytics community, has launched the Insights Imperative, an industry-wide declaration affirming the essential role of human-centered insight in helping organizations make better decisions.
First introduced at IA’s Corporate Researchers Conference (CRC) in Chicago, the Insights Imperative comes at a pivotal moment for the profession. As artificial intelligence and other technologies rapidly transform how information is gathered, analyzed, and applied, the Imperative reinforces a fundamental truth: technology may change how insights are generated, but understanding people remains essential to turning information into meaningful action.
The Insights Imperative calls attention to the role insights professionals play every day in challenging assumptions, uncovering opportunities, strengthening strategy, and helping organizations make decisions grounded in evidence and human understanding.
“What insights professionals do matters, and this is our opportunity to make that impact impossible to overlook,” said Anita Watkins, CEO of the Insights Association. “Technology is giving us extraordinary new capabilities, but data and technology alone do not create understanding. Our profession brings the human judgment, curiosity, context and truth that turn information into action. The Insights Imperative is both a declaration of our value and a call to our community to show the world what insights make possible.”
From Declaration to Demonstrated Impact
The Insights Imperative goes beyond defining the role of the profession. IA is inviting insights professionals and organizations to help demonstrate its impact through real-world stories. The initiative will highlight examples of insights uncovering opportunities, changing decisions, influencing strategy, and creating meaningful business impact. Members of the community are encouraged to share their own examples, which may be submitted either with their organization identified or blinded when confidentiality is required.
Through these stories, IA aims to build a collective body of evidence demonstrating the influence insights have across organizations and industries. The Imperative also underscores the responsibility of the profession as technology continues to evolve: to ensure judgment, evidence and truth remain at the center of decision-making.
“Insights have always been about more than delivering data,” Watkins added. “We help organizations understand people. We ask the questions that need to be asked. We bring context to complexity. And ultimately, we help leaders move from information to better decisions. That role is only becoming more important.”
