North Central Chapter: Webinar - The Limitations of Empathy

When: June 20
Time: 1 pm EDT

Event Description & Key Takeaways: Empathy is essential for understanding consumers and improving products. While beneficial, empathy has its problems. Consider studies that show:
(1) We confuse empathy with sympathy and compassion, which are critically different.
(2) Our brain’s empathic resonance is biased, making it hard to empathize with those unlike us.
(3) Too much empathy can be weaponized by bad actors. This talk explores 16 limitations of empathy and advocates for cultivating two capacities that complement empathy’s limitations: curiosity and care.
