For OvationMR, meaningful research begins with reaching the right people—but it does not end there. The company combines global audience access, research expertise, technology and project support to help clients move from a business question to evidence they can confidently act upon.
Its capabilities include access to B2B professionals and hard-to-reach consumers worldwide; end-to-end research, project management, questionnaire development and data science, as well as survey programming, translations, localization and reporting. OvationMR also offers EthOS, a mobile research platform for ethnography, diary studies, product testing and other in-context research.
Jennifer Whaley, Chief Commercial Officer, sees particularly strong potential in mobile-first research that captures experiences as they happen.
“Traditional research often asks people to remember and explain an experience after it has happened,” she says. “EthOS allows participants to show what they are doing, seeing and feeling in the moment through video, photos and diary activities. That gives clients a clearer view of the gap between what people say they do and what actually happens in their lives, workplaces and customer experiences.”
While AI can help researchers organize and interpret this rich content more efficiently, Jennifer emphasizes that technology is not the central value proposition: “The real value is the richer evidence it makes possible.”
That focus on evidence runs throughout OvationMR’s work. The company views consultation as an integral part of every engagement, whether it is providing audience access, managing fieldwork or leading an entire research initiative. Its team advises clients on feasibility, audience strategy, methodology, data quality and the internal communication of findings.
Increasingly, those clients extend beyond traditional insights departments to include teams in customer experience, product, innovation, marketing, strategy, analytics and human resources. Jennifer welcomes that broader involvement because it brings research closer to the areas of the organization responsible for making and implementing decisions.
“The opportunity is to make research less siloed and more useful across the organization,” she says. “When the right stakeholders are involved from the beginning, the work is more likely to reflect the real business need, gain internal support and lead to action.”
OvationMR begins its engagements by defining what the research needs to change. That could be a product decision, a shift in messaging, a clearer audience priority, greater confidence in an investment or stronger alignment around a customer problem. Rather than measuring success simply by the completion of a study, the company looks at whether the research created greater clarity, influenced a decision, reduced risk or provided a more confident path forward.
This decision-focused approach also addresses what OvationMR identifies as one of the greatest barriers to better insight: the pressure to reach certainty too quickly. Having more data does not automatically produce greater clarity. Strong insights require the discipline to challenge assumptions, reconcile conflicting signals and carefully consider what the evidence supports within the broader business context.
To make that process easier, OvationMR is working to create a more connected research experience. Brands frequently rely on separate providers for audience access, fieldwork, qualitative research, technology and reporting, leaving internal teams to coordinate fragmented workstreams. OvationMR is strengthening the connections among its capabilities to provide greater continuity, clearer accountability and less loss of context from the original question through final delivery.
Over the next five years, the company aims to make high-quality research more accessible throughout client organizations, giving teams beyond the insights function practical and repeatable ways to frame better questions, reach the right audiences and use research confidently.
That commitment to responsible growth has been part of OvationMR since its founding. CEO Jim Whaley established the company with the conviction that research can do more than address commercial challenges; it can positively affect the products, services, workplaces and communities people experience.
“In the early years, the company grew by focusing on the fundamentals: reaching the right people, being transparent with clients and taking personal responsibility for the work,” Jim says. “Growth came largely through relationships and repeat business, with capabilities expanding in response to the problems clients trusted us to solve.”
Entrepreneurship also reinforced for Jim that a company’s responsibilities increase along with its success.
“It is not only about building revenue or winning more work,” he says. “It is about creating opportunities for employees, supporting communities and making sure the company’s growth contributes to something beyond itself.”
That sense of shared responsibility helped draw OvationMR to the Insights Association. The company values IA’s role in advancing standards and bringing the industry together to address data quality, privacy, AI and respondent trust. Just as importantly, membership connects its team with peers who are confronting the same challenges and collectively defining what responsible research should look like next.
