The IDEA Council not only maps the path for progress in research practice and the insights workplace, but they also take active roles in research design, data analysis, report writing and presentation, and much more.

Carlos Garcia

Mr. Garcia is an accomplished professional in both qualitative and quantitative research. After ten years of experience in Hispanic research he founded Garcia Research Associates, Inc. in 1990. In 2011 Carlos became an SVP for Multicultural Research with Knowledge Networks and then with GfK. After five years with GfK, Mr. Garcia re-launched an independent Garcia Research.

 

Mr. Garcia was a cum laude graduate in Foreign Languages from Pomona College in Claremont, California. He received a Ford Foundation Fellowship towards earning a Masters Degree in Comparative Literature awarded by the University of California at Berkeley. Mr. Garcia later received his MBA from National University in San Diego, California and also did graduate work at the Université de Paris III (La Sorbonne Nouvelle).

Mr. Garcia, the child of Mexican immigrant parents, is fluent in Spanish and French.

He is Board Chair Emeritus of Valley Community Healthcare and is a past president of the Pomona College Alumni Association. In 2013 he was the recipient of the Meritorious Service Award from the Marketing Research Association (now the Insights Association). He is also a recipient of awards from the Latin Business Association (Business of the Year under $5 Million) and the ARF Ogilvy Award (Multicultural project for Walmart). He now resides in Palm Desert, CA and serves on the board of the Artists Council, the Palm Desert City Finance Committee and the IDEA Council of the Insights Association.

Scott Baker is a Senior Vice President at Escalent, an award-winning advisory firm where he specifically focuses on the Consumer and Retail practice. He has deep knowledge and experience working with Fortune 100/500 Brands for a variety of verticals, solutions, and methodologies over the years. Always working with clients to achieve their research goals, consider innovative solutions and develop long-term partnerships.

Scott began his career in the field of advertising before joining the research firm – Herron Associates in Tampa, Florida in 1991. In 1998 he moved to Los Angeles, California to join Adept Consumer Testing where he worked across many positions from Project Director to Vice President to several years as President before leaving. In 2014, Scott joined Schlesinger Group where his responsibilities ranged from overseeing West Coast Operations to leading the Brand Team and several key accounts before leaving in 2022.

Scott is highly involved in several professional organizations including the Insights Association. Over the years, he has served numerous local and national positions within Industry organizations and other non-profits. Currently, he serves on the Executive Committee for the Insights Association Board of Directors with a particular focus on National Events and DEI (Diversity, Equity and Inclusion) initiatives with the IDEA Council.

Scott is a graduate of the University of South Florida, with continued education from New York University, Loyola University, UCLA Extension, Burke Institute, and the Disney Institute. In addition, Scott is IPC certified (an Insights Association designation).

Scott lives at the beach in Marina del Rey, CA, and can be found doing outdoor activities on the weekends with his husband and two mini-Schnauzers – typically between Venice Beach and Palm Desert.

With more than 20 years in the insights industry, Sherri Dansby is the Director of Patient Experience at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan. Her focus is on improving the delivery of patient care and health outcomes for seniors. She has expertise in executing bespoke quantitative and qualitative market research studies and is passionate about using insights to drive business decisions.

Sherri has been active with the Insights Association for more than 15 years and served as President of the North Central Chapter. She's also a founding member of the IDEA Council and proud of the mission to advance diversity and inclusion within the insights industry. Sherri is also active in other organizations, enjoys traveling and is an avid runner. She has a bachelor’s from the University of Michigan and MBA from the University of Detroit-Mercy.

Heather is Vice President of People & Culture, fostering CMB’s culture of trust, teamwork, and collaboration to ensure that each CMBer achieves their highest potential. She partners closely with other members of CMB’s Leadership and Management teams to attract, retain, and develop our talent as a strategic differentiator.

Heather brings 20+ years of professional experience and deep knowledge of CMB to this role. Heather began her career with us as a Project Manager bringing a client-centric approach to project management, leading both strategic and tactical client engagements. In 2010, she transitioned to a program management role overseeing CMB’s mission critical programs, playing a key part in employee training and development, client feedback, and resource planning. In 2012, her role expanded to overseeing Client Services with responsibility for research operations and project execution: People, Process, and Technology. Currently, Heather is focused even more purposefully on the People side of that equation, bringing a human-centered approach to her position.

Heather earned her M.A. in Experimental Psychology, with an emphasis in quantitative methods, from University of Hartford, and her B.A. in Psychology from Ohio University, where she graduated Phi Beta Kappa and summa cum laude.

April Jeffries, a Global President at IUU, our qualitative arm at Ipsos, provides vision and strategy in our mission to better understand people, markets and societies and is known in the industry as an “Empathy Activist”. Her global team of experiential researchers, qualitative consultants, ethnographers, anthropologists and filmmakers focus on changing the game through heightened understanding of the human behind the data.

Ms. Jeffries is a founder and co-leader of our Anti Racism Employee Resource Group and she along with Manuel Garcia-Garcia and a team of over 300 Ipsos employees have been pushing a passionate ant-racism agenda throughout the organization. She also sits on the IDEA Council of the Insights Association, a special council designed to address Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Access within the Insights industry.

April leverages her experience successfully designing and implementing marketing, strategic and tactical plans for key industries. Her prior roles have included President Ipsos Understanding Unlimited US, Vice President Innovation Pinnacle Foods, Vice President Marketing Pepperidge Farm and Marketing Director Campbell Soup Company. April is also the author of “Idea Birthing - A Woman’s Guide to the Successful Delivery of Her Brilliant Idea” and is an award winning writer and director / producer of original works in various mediums.

Damon is the Vice-President of Telephone Operations at Burke, Inc. Damon plays a critical role in Burke’s Data Collection Division as he oversees the day-to-day operations involved in the execution of telephone research projects. He manages the execution of our Hispanic telephone data collection through our subcontractor partner network. In addition to his day to day responsibilities, Damon serves as Chair of Burke’s Inclusion & Diversity Strategic team called Kaleidoscope and serves on multiple teams within the organization.

Damon is continually involved in staying current in MR Data Collection and general industry knowledge by his active membership in the Insights Association.

He is a Board advisor of the Great Lakes Chapter of the Insights Association and serves as Chair of that Chapter’s Diversity and Education Committee which he formed during his tenure as President in 2014-15, and serves on the National Insights Association’s Chapter Leadership Committee and the newly formed IDEA (Inclusion, Diversity, Equity & Access) committee with National IA . He has been a presenter at multiple educational conferences. Damon is a Graduate of the University of Georgia’s Principles of Marketing Research Certification Program. Damon is also a Graduate of Cornell University’s Online Diversity and Education Certification Program. Damon has been with Burke since July of 1996.

Dyna is the Managing Director of the Consumer & Retail, Technology and Telecommunications practices at Escalent. She has a propensity for action and is on a quest to advise and inspire insights leaders across the world. Over the course of her career, Dyna has been on the executive team of multiple venture/private equity backed start-ups, including two that she co-founded herself. On this journey, she's experienced an IPO, scaled a company, and been through two acquisitions. She also co-founded the WIRexec Leadership Summit to promote collaboration among other female executives in her industry. Above and beyond, Dyna believes in diversity and inclusions as well as providing mentorship to young women. Dyna and her partner live in Northern California. They love to mountain bike, ski, and do yoga when they're not busy sorting drama between their two teenage girls, teenage boy exchange student, and rambunctious Frenchie named Matcha.

She supports a team of about 40 researchers focused on uncovering insights to support the Business Messaging team’s mission of becoming the primary way that people and businesses connect. Prior to joining Meta in 2021, Chan spent 14 years with Prudential Financial where she was Vice President, Head of Market Research & Analytics in the most recent 5 years. There, she built and led a team of 40+ professionals responsible for providing Prudential businesses with actionable insights to inform and shape business decisions by using a wide variety of research approaches and analytical techniques to generate insights around market and product opportunities. Chan spent the first 7 years of her career at AMI-Partners where she was responsible for the syndicated primary research operation in 25+ countries, including having spearheaded the launch of syndicated products in 8 Asia Pacific countries. Chan has an M.B.A. from Baruch College and a B.S. of Psychology from Binghamton University.

Bianca’s (she/her) passion for fighting for equity and inclusion has long been burning.

She currently chairs the Insights Association IDEA Council, which stands for Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Access, alongside 15 equally-passionate council members. In the two-plus years of inception, IDEA Council has been fiercely committed to making our industry more representative by way of IDEAtors Fellowship Program; launching IDEA Forum, which has helped push the industry conversation; and validating and socializing an industry recommendation for race and ethnicity screener/profiler questions based on how consumers themselves want to be asked (gender ID and sexual orientation soon coming).

In 2019, Bianca launched a 501c3 that centers Black maternal health called Dr. Shalon’s Maternal Action Project and launched a peer-to-peer empowerment app for Black birthing people called Believe Her in 2021.
