About the Workshop:
Design Thinking is a movement that is challenging the status quo of how organizations worldwide make decisions and problem-solve. It is a non-linear process comprised of five core parts: Empathy, Define, Ideate, Prototype, Test.
As researchers, you activate and use many of the methodologies that Design Thinking practitioners leverage to “empathize.” In this workshop series, you’ll learn how you might further level up your practice to engage, with confidence, in the Define, Ideate, Prototype and/or Test parts of the Design Thinking process. Excellence in these areas will enable you to inspire more action against the insights provided to your clients. This four-touchpoint workshop experience has intentionally been designed to support application of the Design Thinking process in your qualitative practice.
September 28: This touchpoint will occur in a virtual forum using the Aha! platform. On September 28, all workshop attendees will receive an email invite with information about logging onto the Aha! platform. Attendees will be asked to use this forum to publically set their learning intentions for the workshop. This step serves to create a powerful container of learning and growth for all attendees, as we engage in this journey of Design Thinking together.
October 2, 10am-12pm EDT: Workshop series begins! This touchpoint occurs over Zoom with Brianna Sylver. In it, the Design Thinking process will be illustrated, in addition to the mindsets and practices required to be successful in it. Also shared will be key methods of inquiry along each stage of the Design Thinking continuum. October 2 through 16: Touchpoint 3 gives you the opportunity to use — with guided consultation — Design Thinking in your work. Over the period of two weeks, you’ll be challenged to use a key method of Design Thinking in your work and to share your experiences on the Aha! platform/forum dedicated to this event as you do. This connection will support you in integrating Design Thinking into your practice, while simultaneously creating a positive learning environment for all others partaking in the workshop series.
October 16, 10am-11:30am EDT: Last live Zoom “coaching” session with Brianna. This is the final touchpoint of the Design Thinking Workshop Series. Over Zoom, live group coaching will occur. Attendees of the workshop series will be able to step forward to share their own experiences in applying Design Thinking to their work in the past two weeks and to ask detailed questions to support continued application of the process. Upon registration, you will receive a confirmation email instructing you how to register for this Zoom session and details of how to join when it's time. Please make sure to register via Zoom!
At the conclusion of this workshop series, you — as a qualitative practitioner — will have applied understanding of where and how the Design Thinking process can be integrated into your work.
