The Marketing Research Association (MRA) sent correspondence today to Chairman Lee Terry (R-NE-02) and Ranking Member Jan Schakowsky (D-IL-09) of the House Subcommittee on Commerce, Manufacturing and Trade, urging them to consider the issues of data privacy and cross-border data trade between the US and the European Union (EU) during the Subcommittee's July 24, 2013 hearing on the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP).

"This is urgent given reports that European officials, including European Commission Vice President Viviane Reding, have threatened the standing of the US-EU Safe Harbor," explained Howard Fienberg, PLC, director of government affairs for MRA.

Fienberg went on to urge maintaining the US-EU Safe Harbor for data transfer and the harmonization of EU data privacy law to a more entrepreneurial model.
