IL – Following extensive discussions with MRA, Rep. Jack D. Franks (D-63) introduced H.B. 6948 and abandoned pursuit of his previous legislation, the “Prescription Drug Ethical Marketing Act” (H.B. 332). The Act, which MRA last covered in the February 2010 Legislative Update, could have required public reporting of incentives paid to healthcare providers to participate in marketing research.

Instead, H.B. 6948 merely would require the state Attorney General to post the reports provided by the Secretary of Health and Human Services (HHS), as required in the federal Sunshine Act.

This legislation should have no impact on the research profession.
