The Meritorious Service Award, presented at the MRA Insights & Strategies Conference in San Diego on June 3, recognizes an industry professional who over their career has demonstrated tremendous leadership and dedication resulting in remarkable contributions to the research profession. One of our two recipients, Ken Roberts, CEO of Cooper Roberts Research, Inc., has earned the respect of the marketing research industry for his excellent efforts at a national and chapter level for MRA, as well as many other industry associations.

Ken has been a member of the American Marketing Association since 1984. In that more than 30 years, he has served AMA in a number of important roles: as a leader at the chapter level in San Francisco where he became chapter president and served for 2 years, in 1992 and 1994; at the national level on the Professional Chapters Council for 5 years and served as President of that Council in 1999. He also served on the AMA’s national ethics committee for three years from 2000-2003.

Ken began his efforts on behalf of MRA as the Chair of its Professional Standards Committee, eventually becoming a member of the board as chair of one of what used to be called a “council,” – arguably one of the most challenging volunteer positions, requiring at minimum a four year commitment.

He went on to become one of MRA’s most effective national Presidents, leading many efforts, including as a founder and continuing analyst of the Research Industry Index (RII), MRA’s leading indicator of business activity in the U.S. marketing research industry. Since leaving the MRA board, he has been an active member of the Marketing Research Association International (MRII) board of directors, serving mostly on curriculum and marketing research committees.

It’s a great pleasure to be honoring an industry expert who is one of those people who makes an excellent friend, adviser and volunteer: Ken Roberts.
