The Honorary Lifetime Membership Award, presented at the Marketing Research Association (MRA) Insights & Strategies Conference in San Diego on June 3, recognizes an MRA member for a lifetime commitment to outstanding individual service to MRA and the marketing research profession. This year’s award winner, Steve Schlesinger, PRC, CEO of Schlesinger Associates, has been in the marketing research industry for nearly 30 years. He believes deeply in the current and future success of our industry and has demonstrated this vision through incredible commitment to industry volunteer services.

Steve served for 8 years on the MRA board of directors, finishing his tenure as the secretary of the board. He is a founding member of the CEO Summit and continues his involvement, last year co-chairing the event in Napa. He is an active member of MRA, AMA, CASRO, CMOR, ESOMAR, and PMRG and encourages his employees to add their own skills and experiences to industry initiatives.

Steve’s enthusiasm does not stop with his own team! He is often at industry events, not just networking with clients but on the lookout for special skills and knowledge in his industry colleagues who he encourages to get involved as volunteers. He is particularly passionate about the future direction of our industry and supporting the next generation of market researchers. Last year, together with Merrill Dubrow of MARC research, Steve set up the Young Professionals Grant – an initiative for sponsoring a scholarship program for young researchers to attend the QRCA annual conference – keen researchers who would not otherwise have had the means to participate. He allocates significant sponsorship funding towards educational events across consumer, B2B and pharma research markets. Steve regularly donates his facilities and hospitality services for learning events for industry associations across the country.

He gets excited about technology that pushes the boundaries of research capabilities and research value. Steve makes sure anyone in the industry, not just his clients, are invited to his annual Research Technology Open days that he hosts to allow researchers to get hands-on and confident in embracing new innovations. He believes deeply in giving back at all levels and, in addition to his personal foundations, he continuously creates programs for giving back to the consumer and patient communities and also the environments in which his company does market research.

Steve started his career as a project manager and worked his way up to lead Schlesinger Associates for the past 20 years. As CEO of his company, he has created the strategy and vision for Schlesinger Associates, the world’s most respected data collection company.

Thank you to this year’s Honorary Lifetime Membership Award recipient, Steve Schlesinger.
